Picture a long drive to school during the holiday season. It’s in full swing: lights are being hung, laughs of delight can be heard from behind masks and music is joyful and bright. It seems like a perfectly normal day, and for senior Lucas Morgan, a day like this was what inspired him to write “Get Your Christmas On (It’s Time),” which would later feature on his surprise Christmas album.

A long-time lover of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and many other jazz musicians, Morgan was given the idea to create an album from girlfriend Makenna Malkin. Malkin was one of the select few who featured on the album along with Alexa Parvaneh, a Capo alumni.

“Makenna has a great voice so I really wanted to duet with her,” Morgan explained. “Alexa is a close friend who loves jazz, so she seemed like the perfect person to feature on the album as well.”

The way Morgan described everything, it would seem as though the creation process went without error. This was not the case, however, since the singer went through many difficulties whilst producing and recording.

Without professional equipment or an instructor, Morgan had to work extremely hard to make the songs sound the way he wanted. Going through trial and error repetitively, he had to create the instrumentals from scratch all while scrambling to write his own song before Christmas Day arrived.

“I knew that I wanted to have an original song on the album, but I wasn’t sure if mine was good enough,” Morgan remarked.

Just when it seemed all hope was lost, everything came to him on his regular drive to school. Lyrics, melodies and more flooded into his mind as he took in lights and Christmas trees, proving that inspiration can strike at any moment.

Thankfully, Morgan has plans for future albums and songs. He hopes to make a contemporary album with Malkin featuring both covers and original songs, something everyone will be looking forward to.

So what are you waiting for? It’s never too late (or too early) to get your Christmas on, so go check out his album here or on any music streaming app.
